RE: CA 49 S from Placerville CA to 88 then 88 W to 99

If coming from Reno you could take 395 south to Carson City Hwy. 50 west to 89 south at Meyers/South Lake Tahoe to Junction 88 west to 99 This is a good 2 lane road with some passing lanes and a couple of 4 lane sections. Have fun

RE: Update: RV parking at Reno, Nevada casinos

I don't want to start a big slam but when has parking with slides out and antennas up in a parking lot become a right? Rembember these are not rest areas or truck stops where you can grab a few hours rest most who do this here stay for 2 or 3 days. Would you let us stay in your local parking lots in your home town? Just a thought. Have fun

RE: San Fran to Tahoe, NV March...Doable???

As jharrelson said either Hwy. 50 or I-80 are kept clear. I-80 is 4 lanes all the way to Tahoe/Reno although more truck traffic and if snowing you usually have to have chains for a longer distance. Hwy. 50 is 2 lanes with passing lanes about every 5 or 6 miles from Tahoe to just before Pollock Pines then 4 lanes to Sacramento. You get up and down faster on Hwy.50 My opinion. We use Hwy.50. Have fun

RE: Campground Rating Results

From the looks of that survey no one stays west or north of Texas. There are a lot of resort type and state/forest service campgrounds that would qualify for a A rating in the west. You could almost give Oregon an A for all there state parks on the coast. Have fun

RE: Road side assistance

A lot of folks have gone to coach net. I think Good Sam and Coach Net are about the same so your choice comes down to service. We have had Good Sam for over 18 years and have used it several times any thing from flats to towing and most calls were not on major Highways. The service was always timely and the service personal they used were polite and knowable and they have always called back to check if we were safe and if the service was on time and complete. Can't ask for more. Have fun

RE: Sacramento CA to Roswell New Mexico

An Alt. route if weather is good would be 99 south to Bakersfield east 58 to Barstow east I-40 To Albuquerque south I-25 to San Antonio east 380 to Roswell. You could have snow this route over Tehachapi and in Flagstaff and between Carrizozo and Hondo. This route is 1275 miles. Places we have stopped this route,Barstow KOA,Needles KOA-if possable buy fuel in AZ. they want your first born child in Needles-Kingman KOA,Circle Pines KOA Willams,USA RV Gallup,American Albuquerque,Bosque Birdwatchers RV San Antonio all full HU parks. For less chances of snow Modracer's route is a good one and only 20 miles longer at 1295 miles and the only chances of snow that route would be Tehachapi and around Cloudcroft. Have fun

RE: Golden Shore RV Resort, Long Beach, CA

The park is clean and quite the sites are close together but we could get the slides out and our tow on site but it was a close fit. The roads were paved and the sites decomposed granite with some grass between sites the pool was large and clean and the restrooms were clean. The park is close to all area attractions and restaurants. All in all it is a good park for a city location and we would return. Have fun

RE: Albuqueque NM - Durango CO

Coming from southeast Kansas you are going way out of your way to go to Albuquerque and you are still going to have to go through the mountains the easier route would be to get on Hwy. 50 in Kansas and take it west to La Junta CO. then 10 southwest to Walsenburg and west 160 to Durango the biggest climb this route would be Wolf Creek Pass but it is 4 lanes up and down the rest is mostly hills and a good 2 lane road. Places we have stopped this route. USI Wichita,Garden City KOA,Country Host Motel & RV Park Walsenburg,Pagosa Riverside Pagosa Springs,Alpen Rose and United Campground of Durango, all FH parks. If you still want to go through Albuquerque I would take I-25 north to Bernalillo northwest 550 to Durango you still go through some mountains and this route is not as pretty but a good 2 lane road. My oponion only. Have fun

RE: Scottsdale to Vegas

We always go over the dam that said there is a curvy narrow drop to the dam and about the same distance of a climb on the other side. However it is very doable as there is a speed limit of 15 mph in spots and no one is going to pass or push you there is also a check point before you cross the dam no big deal open a couple bays and you are on your way 3-5 mins. tops. I think this is an easier drive than going through Laughlin as there is a long down hill to the river,Laughlin, and about a 15 mile climb out to Hwy.95 and about 25 miles longer. Have fun

RE: Reno to Yosemite to Carmel

There are 2 ways to get to Oakhurst/Yosemite from Tahoe you can take 89 south out of South Lake Tahoe to 88 west to Jackson south 49 to Moccasin east 120 to Yosemite 41 south to Oakhurst this route is about 211 miles and some curvy sections but more than doable. The second route is from Tahoe Hwy 50 to Carson City and south 395 to Lee Vining west 120 to Yosemite south 41 to Oakhurst this is about 219 miles either route is scenic the second route has a pretty good climb out of Lee Vining for about 7 to 10 miles but this is also doable. From Oakhurst to Monterey I would take 41 south from Oakhurst to 145 west to Madera north I-5 to Fairmead and west 152 to Gilroy south 101 west 156 to Castroville and Hwy 1 south to Monterey all routes are good 2 lane roads. Have fun

RE: Holbrook AZ to Scottsdale AZ

That route is a good 2 lane road all the way. That said there is little to no shoulder from Holbrook to Heber although mostly flat and straight the rest of the route is mountain driving with no major curves you do climb from Heber to the Mogollon Rim then it is down hill to Scottsdale. Between the Rim and Payson watch for Elk especially in the morning and evening. If you need an overnight camp there is one in Payson coming into town on the north side of the Hwy it use to be an old KOA the sites are narrow but doable. Have fun
